Etna
Workshop Internazionale d’Architettura
Abitare l’Etna / 21-23.2.25
Monastero di San Nicolò La Rena di Nicolosi

In collaboration with Ivana Laura Sorge Architettura
The workshop organized by Francesco Finocchiaro and Parco de l’Etna reflected on the question of how to give new value to existing volcanic stone ruins scattered on and around the Etna Volcano, and what approach -if any- an architectural intervention could have.
Our conceptual approach consisted of non-permanent, light structure interventions on few and selected areas of the ruin and not in its entirety, respecting existing microfauna ecosystems that have colonized the drystone structures in most areas of the ruin.
These small infrastructures would give basic support -in the ruin- to local specialists that could take forward research on subjects tightly related to the Etna volcano, such as: volcanology, zoology, archeology and agronomy, among others.
